Chris’ currently working on his dissertation, and has some distinct areas of research that he is interested in pursuing:
Military Ethics:
Motivation: How do members of an armed force keep hope whilst in the ‘dark places’. What keeps a person pressing forward in the attack when facing incredible odds.
Discipline: How do institutions ‘keep it all together’ to ensure that they can meet their obligations as set out in a theory of ius in bello?
Just War Theory:
Where does obligation to a member of a fighting force enter into the consideration of a theory of just war?
Courses:
Chris has taught PHIL 235: War, Violence, Terrorism and Ethics. A second year philosophy course that examined the philosophy of war, the standard account of Just War Theory, and special topics in war and ethics (responsibility, moral injury, killer robots, etc).
Projects:
Why do we fight?
An examination of Unlimited Liability
Discipline:
