It has been a while.
There has been a lot of reading. My two comprehensive exams are done (Moral Psychology & Political Philosophy). I have also passed the candidacy requirements and am reading with a purpose of producing my thesis. Here’s what’s on the table (books only) right now:
- Michael Walzer Thick and Thin
- Michael Walzer Arguing About War
- Lord Moran The Anatomy of Courage
- Jeremy Waldron Dignity, Rank, & Rights
- Sun Tzu The Art of War
- Thomas Scanlon What we Owe Each Other
When I see the list in this light it seems quite eclectic. I think that’s good. I hope that it means that I am seeing a unique perspective on what I am reading. I have really enjoyed Scanlon and Waldron. They have a refreshingly grounded approach to values and respect that I have not seen elsewhere. The work by Lord Moran is very exciting, and I can’t wait to get into it.
